On Wednesday 8th June, Victor Villegas Auditorium of Murcia will be hosting 8 dancers with Down's Syndrome from ASSIDO

More than a hundred people will be participating in the Diversity Dance Performance. The Minister of Culture and government spokesman, Noelia Arroyo, has attended today to one of its rehearsals.

On Wednesday 8th June, Victor Villegas Auditorium of Murcia will host a Diversity Dance Performance organized by the Association for Down Syndrome Sufferers (Assido), Region of Murcia fully involved. More than a hundred dancers with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities, adults, youngsters and children, will take the stage at a gala.  The Minister of Culture and Government spokeswoman, Noelia Arroyo, has attended today some rehearsals.

Accompanied by the president of Assido, Juan Carlos Sanchez, and the director of  CaixaBank of Murcia, Gerardo Cuartero, Arroyo has been able to see first-hand the experience of some of the dancers of the association and has had the opportunity to see how the members of the dance company 'Así somos' work in the Day Centre Assido.

Arroyo wanted to encourage all murcians "to attend the gala on June 8th and contribute to the great work done by this association, since the collection of the show will serve to keep the workshops held and help the people with Down syndrome improve their lives and freely express themselves through art, incorporating culture into their daily lives."

Tickets for Diversity Dance Performance are already on sale at a price of 10 euros and can be purchased in advance at the center of Assido, located in la Plaza Bohemia (Murcia), and on the day of the gala, at the Auditorium box office.

This year the performance is entitled 'Gaia', Earth in Greek, and its 16 choreographies are inspired by the four elements: air, water, earth and fire. Dancers of all ages will be performing at the Auditorium, but members of vocational dance company 'Así somos', incorporated in Assido in 2003, will put the end to the show. To make  this possible, the families of the association are supported by the Ministry of Culture and Spokesperson and by Obra Social 'La Caixa' as well, which has contributed with € 6,000 for this project.

The Association

Assido was born in 1981 thanks to a group of parents of people with Down Syndrome from Murcia who came together to get the services and supports that their children needed. Over time, the association has grown to bring together more than 350 families and their needs have evolved both because of the age of its members as its social achievements. Since the beginning, the goal remains the same: to improve the quality of life of their brothers, sons and families with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities.

Assido, along with other 26 entities of the region of Murcia, forms part of the Federation of Associations of people with intellectual disabilities and cerebral palsy, full inclusion of the Region of Murcia, which already represents more than 3,000 families and employs more than 600 professionals.
